Stylist Spotlight

Article by Jazmyne van Gosliga.

Over the past few months, our senior stylist, Lily, has been on an incredible journey, and we couldn’t be prouder! 🌟

She was recently named a Finalist for NZ Newcomer of the Year at the Industry awards, an amazing achievement for her creative and visionary entry titled “Decomposition”. Inspired by the common field mushroom, Agaricus Campestrus, Lily drew from her childhood memories of foraging with her family in Colorado, USA. Now living in New Zealand, she continues this tradition every autumn, inspired by the natural beauty and variety of mushrooms. Lily shared:

“This is my first editorial photoshoot that I’ve led, as well as the first hair competition I’ve ever entered. It was such a rewarding experience to bring my vision to life, and to be recognized as a finalist feels absolutely surreal!”

Lily has also been busy sharing her expertise through The BOOTLEG PROJECT, a community-driven hair education initiative described as:

“House party X Hair Edu. An unadulterated live event. No stages. No production. Real talent sharing real stories.”

Aboki Hairdressers proudly hosted a BOOTLEG session in Nelson earlier this year, and Lily was later invited to Christchurch to demonstrate at another session held at Ginger Megs Salon. There, she focused on one of her specialties, curly hair, in a look-and-learn format that inspired and educated other stylists.

And last be certainly not least - Lily was also a New Zealand Finalist in the Schwarzkopf ‘Colour Crafter’ competition, a competition celebrating creative hair colour across Australia and New Zealand. Lily impressed with her bold and vibrant look, showcasing her exceptional talent and innovative approach to colour artistry.
