🤱 Postpartum Hair Loss – You’re Not Imagining It

By Jazmyne van Gosliga

If you’ve recently had a baby and are finding more hair than usual in your brush or shower drain — you’re not alone. In fact, studies show up to 90% of new mums experience postpartum hair loss, typically starting around 3–4 months after birth, and it can last for up to 6 months.

What’s actually happening?

During pregnancy, high levels of estrogen extend your hair’s growth cycle — which is why many women enjoy fuller, thicker hair. But once your baby is born, those hormone levels drop suddenly, and the hairs that were “paused” in growth now move into a shedding phase (telogen effluvium).

🧠 This is not permanent hair loss — it’s a normal, temporary reset of your hair cycle.

Most women begin to notice regrowth around the hairline by 6–9 months postpartum, and by your baby’s first birthday, your hair is often back to its pre-pregnancy thickness.

The emotional side

While it’s normal, it doesn’t mean it’s easy. Shedding large amounts of hair — especially when you’re already navigating exhaustion and the demands of early motherhood — can feel overwhelming, frustrating, and affect your confidence. We hear this a lot from our clients, and we want you to know: you’re not alone, and we’ve got your back.

What can you do?🧴 Use targeted products
