Melissa is our CEO and Director - She is a second-generation stylist having been born into the hairdressing industry. With over 35 years of experience as a full-time stylist, she is our wealth of knowledge and inspiration.

If you know her,  she exudes passion and endless energy to her team and her clients. She has a particular eye for detail and has amassed a strong, loyal clientele many of which she counts as her friends after all of these years, her sole focus is making people happy and a great style can do just that!

Melissa works on the floor three days a week and likes her clients to pre-book at least 2-3 advance appointments to ensure they can get in to see her and avoid disappointment.

The rest of her week she’s working on the business, which is now well renowned in the industry NZ-wide. Melissa was appointed a member of the Schwarzkopf Progressive hairdressing group in 1995 and is still a member today. Her thirst for the next best thing keeps our salon innovation at the top, Aboki has won countless TopShop awards spanning the entire time of operation, plus many of our team have gone on to own their own salons, be prized managers, educators for companies, Polytech trainers and business people in their own right.

Asking Melissa how she stays inspired after so many years of hairdressing she said "Besides making my clients feel great and enjoy their timeout at the salon, I love restyles, beautiful bobs and colourwork in which I'm inspired by natural flow to accentuate. I also love the transition and journey of clients growing out colour and embracing their sparkles".

John has been hairdressing for over 22 years. He's a highly trained cut and colourist and an expert at corrective colour work. He specialises in barber work and teaches our Academy team in this area with an excellent eye for men's cuts and fades.

John is trained by Fox Stevens cutting expert and has previously worked backstage at L'Oréal fashion week.

John loves his clients leaving the salon feeling great about themselves; with a business background, he loves problem-solving and sharing advice - How many people can say their business survived with help from their hairdresser!

John does have a shoulder injury, so his hours change according to his pre-booked clients, so if you want to see him on your next visit, rebook, and you'll have first dibs!

Hannah is the salon manager and has been at Aboki for six years. She has been doing SALON MASTERY for the past eight months; these intensive online classes work with other salon managers to give them the tools to create a great work environment & a Rockstar hair team.

Hannah is our CURL QUEEN! Having naturally curly hair, Hannah loves to work with her clients' natural curls & transforming curl shapes to create the perfect look that clients can look after at home. Her knowledge of curls comes from embracing her own and being trained in the Clever Curl method. Her colour work emphasises natural hair texture & movement, complementing lived-in colour.

Hannah loves to get out and enjoy nature; you can find her walking some of the great tracks Nelson has to offer.

Debs started her hairstyling journey in 1997 in Christchurch.

Annie has been hairdressing for over 35 years and has been with the great team at Aboki since 2018 after shifting to Nelson from Christchurch, where she has owned her own salon.

She loves meeting new people as well as attending to her own clientele she has built up over this time. Annie specialises in perming, chemical straightening and generally talking about the right products for the health and manageability of your hair.

She welcomes you to book a 15-minute free thorough consultation to discuss your hair needs. Annie works four days a week, so pre-booking forward is essential.

Faye is our star! She’s been at Aboki for nearly 25 years after owning her own salon for 28 years!

With almost 60 years of hairdressing, she is a phenomenal hairdresser and an incredible person to know, inspiring her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter to follow in her footsteps.

Faye has been an examiner for apprenticeship exams and attended countless international hairdressing conferences worldwide.

Nowadays, she chooses the clients she wants to keep and look after, so you have to rebook with her as she’s not online and only works for those pre-booked. Faye has been working with Schwarzkopf longer than anyone working for the company, so we are lucky to have her expertise in the salon.

She’s an artist in her own right; creating shapes for styles, adding volume to fine hair, and creating a canvas of colour for her clients is her objective and her love! We are blessed to have her on our team.

Lizzy is our intermediate stylist and is starting to build up her clientele.

She is fantastic with colour! Lizzy is a fantastic mum to daughter Shayna, and we are excited to see her develop her skills in the salon!
