John has been hairdressing for 20 years, and is a highly skilled hairdresser. He loves getting creative with colour work and correction. He is also specialised in barber work, and has a great eye with mens cuts and fades. John loves his clients leaving the salon with a big smile, and feeling fantastic about themselves.
SENIOR STYLIST + TEAM MANAGER
Juanita is such an asset to our team and has been one of our key Senior Stylists at Aboki for 18 years. It's not often you get a hairdresser that is exceptional in all areas of hairdressing, and Juanita is one of those people! She is our Team Manager, so she makes sure everything is going smoothly with staff. She loves listening to her clients concerns and helping them achieve a style that not only looks great, but makes them feel fantastic!
Faye has been hairdressing since she was 15 and has had many years experience in all aspects of the hairdressing profession. Along her journey Faye has not only been a salon owner, she was also an examiner for apprenticeship exams. She has seen it all, and is a great source of education within our team. Faye is our salon icon, and is an inspiration to us. Her ultimate aim is a happy client!
SENIOR STYLIST / EDUCATOR
Leona joined our team as an advanced senior stylist/educator in 2019. Having started her career in 1998, she moved to NZ from Sydney, Australia with her husband and two very young children to seek more work/life balance and a different lifestyle.
Just some of Leona’s accomplishments in the industry:
- L’oreal colour master degree
- Stylist at every Sydney Fashion Week for over a decade
- National Guest educator for L’Oréal in creative colour techniques, bridal and catwalk techniques and curly hair
- Work featured in Vogue, Harpers, Elle, Marie Claire, Russh, Oyster, Sydney Wedding, Modern Bride, to name a few.
- Leona’s work has sent her to Singapore and Malaysia, LA, New York, Vegas and all over Australia.
- Awards including L’Oréal catwalk stylist of the year for NSW
Leonas specialty is corrective colour work, blondes and balayage and curly hair. When she’s not in the salon she spends a lot of time researching techniques and fashion forecasting.
Janine is a fabulous Senior Stylist from South Africa. Janine is a highly skilled hairdresser, is very thorough with her consultations and excels in her cutting work. Janine has been working with Schwarzkopf colour for over 20 years and loves the challenge of bright colour work and highly skilled mixologist of colour recipes to get the ideal colour match.
Janine brings a lovely gentle nature to the salon, and we love having her a part of our team.
Annie has been hairdressing for over 35 years and has been with the great team at Aboki since 2018 after shifting to Nelson from Christchurch where she has owned her own salons.
She loves meeting new people as well as attending to her own clientele she has built up over this time. Annie specialises in perming, chemical straightening and generally talking about the right products for the health and manageability of your hair.
She welcomes you to book a 15 minute free thorough consultation to discuss your hair needs.
Annie works 4 days a week so booking forward is essential.
Steph started her hairdressing journey at NMIT in 2009 and then went on to be an assistant at Aboki for a year before moving to Wellington to complete her apprenticeship at Reds.
On her way to live in Christchurch in 2015 she took up the opportunity to work at Aboki again as a senior stylist. In September 2020 she came back from six months maternity leave after having her beautiful daughter.
Steph loves doing wedding/ball hair and is in love with and inspired by pinup girl and vintage styles. Always willing to do something different, exciting and new with a clients hair.
Jess joined Aboki’s team in 2007 when she began her training.
As well as completing her 3 year apprenticeship she also undertook an additional 2 year comprehensive cutting course. Jess is trained in all aspects of hairdressing and particularly enjoys colouring and cutting.
Jess is a great listener who will do her best to achieve your desired result, and will make sure you feel comfortable and relaxed during the process.
Hairdressing, Makeup & being artistic are Kelsie's passions.
Kelsie entered the hairdressing industry at the age of 14 through work experience, which led to her apprenticeship at the age of 16 at Rodney Wayne. Kelsie is also trained at Toni & Guy doing cutting. She completed an extensive cutting course through her lead stylist she worked alongside and was a colour technician for.
While working at Aboki for almost 10 years, Kelsie specialises in all aspects of hairdressing, especially colour. She loves creating the full experience with her clients and creating a relationship with them - Being a positive impact on their day is really important.
Kelsie loves meeting new people and being faced with challenges that will help you to achieve the look you want.
Debs started her hairstyling journey in 1997 in Christchurch. Since then she has worked in Auckland, Wellington and now Nelson.
Debs has a passion for blondes/balayage, and she loves further educating herself with new trends and workshops to bring new creative and exciting techniques.
If you ever need a colour correction then she's the stylist for you! She may be quiet at times, but that's because she's thinking of ways to provide imaginative solutions for all your haircare needs.

Eden started working as an assistant at Aboki in February 2020 and was offered an apprenticeship in August. She has always had an interest in hairdressing so was very excited to be offered this opportunity and take this step!
She is always willing to help out where she can. Eden loves working in the Aboki salon environment and is looking forward to continuing her training and building her clientele!
Lily is a creative, passionate and bubbly person from the US.
She has recently made the transition from assistant to apprentice and is looking forward to diving into her passion as a hairdresser. One of her purposes in life is to make people feel beautiful and Makeup, Hair, Fashion, and Art have always been an outlet for this passion.
She looks forward to gaining experience, learning, and working with the amazing team at Aboki and giving people the hair of their dreams!
MARKETING MANAGER, MAKEUP ARTIST + HAIR STYLIST
Jaz is Aboki's full-time Marketing Manager, everything online is managed through her - From our social media, to our website, newsletters, promotions, online booking systems etc!
She is also qualified Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist, and has been working in the industry for 10 years. She has worked in TV, Film, Editorial and many events!
Jaz lives in Auckland, and is often flying down to Nelson for work in the salon. Jaz has 2 daughters, and leads our Auckland 'Baby Sister' salon STUDIO GLOSS.
